Phan Thiet airport is planned to be a 4E national airport as a civil and military general airport. Passenger terminal has a design capacity of 2 million passengers per year.
Previously, Binh Thuan Provincial People’s Committee had asked the Ministry of Defense to add a land bank of nearly 200 hectares to invest in a new take-off road into the Phan Thiet Airport project invested by the Ministry. To meet this strategy, the Government will prioritize investment in Phan Thiet infrastructure. In particular, the Prime Minister has agreed to adjust the scale of Phan Thiet airport from more than 5,000 billion VND to over 10,000 billion VND. Turn this airport into one of the three largest airports in Central Vietnam, just behind Cam Ranh and Da Nang airports.
According to the Vietnam Civil Aviation Administration, Phan Thiet airport is adjusted to airport planning from 4C level to 4E level in accordance with the national airport and airport planning.
The aim of upgrading the airport is to meet the needs of exploiting Noi Bai – Phan Thiet, Van Don – Phan Thiet and Cat Bi – Phan Thiet flights, with code E aircraft, in the period to 2030, as well as exploiting the most modern military aircraft today.
Passenger terminal of Phan Thiet airport is expanded from 5,000 m2 to 19,200 m2, to reach a designed capacity of 2 million passengers per year.
With the adjusted planning, Phan Thiet airport will be divided into three zones, which are used for both civil and military purposes; a civil aviation service area including a yard for civil aviation aircraft, and an independent civil aviation project; Military zone reserved for military aircraft, military technical infrastructure.
